12" ASH SHAKER BOWL 5"H X 12"W This bowl is made from solid Ash and is finished on the inside with boiled linseed oil (food safe) and painted on the outside with a traditionl "Genuine Old-Fashioned Home Made Milk Paint" from the Old Fashiond Milk Paint Company of Groton Mass. (if you felt like it, you could probably make this paint with milk and some dirt form the back yard) The formula for this all natural Zero VOC paint has been around for thousands of years and widly used by early American colonists and the Shakers. If you do a little reaserch you can find examples of Milk Painted bowls in Shaker museums. I also applied a coat of boiled linseed oil over the paint to deepen the color and add a bit more protection against staining. It was hard at first to bring myself to paint a wooden bowl, but I got over it after the first one turned out so nice and besides if you were a Shaker "Kitchen Sister" a little color on the table britens up the room.
